The Dyscalculia Association was set up by Professor Steve Chinn and Judy Hornigold in February 2018 to promote understanding of Dyscalculia and Maths Learning Difficulties generally. As well as offering general training on identification and support, the Dyscalculia Association also offers training on assessment and reporting for practitioners with AMBDA or Level 7 equivalent qualification and aims to develop a nationwide bank of assessors accredited by the Association.
In June 2018, the Dyscalculia Association also gained Level 5 accreditation from OCN4Learning for their Dyscalculia course. This course comprises 3 modules, delivered by 2 face to face sessions and 2 webinars. This level 5 course can be completed within a minimum of 6 months or a maximum of 12 months.
The Dyscalculia Association also offers a Level 3 course, which comprises a 2 day course and a written assignment, available at locations throughout the UK.

Professor Steve ChinnSteve's experience spans over forty years of work and research in special and mainstream education. In 1986 he founded, developed and built a specialist secondary school for dyslexic boys, a school which won major national awards. Steve is now an independent consultant, researcher and writer and has presented papers, contributed to conferences worldwide (over 30 countries) and delivered training courses for psychologists, teachers, parents and support assistants. Awards2008 The Marion Welchman International Award for Services to Dyslexia 2010 The Lady Radnor (Dyslexia Action) Award for lifetime services to dyslexia. 2012 IDA Orton Oak 2013 Visiting Prof of Special Education, University of Derby. 2013 to 2016. Tenure extended to 2019. 2014 FRSA Lectures and ConferencesSteve has lectured and provided INSETs and CPD worldwide and has been a keynote speaker at many major conferences. He set up the first Post Graduate Certificate course in the UK for maths and dyslexia which was accredited by the BDA for the AMBDA (Numeracy). The course was validated by MMU and was delivered for 4 years under Mark College's Beacon School funding. |
Judy HornigoldJudy is an independent education consultant specialising in dyslexia and dyscalculia and also an Associate Tutor for the BDA and Edge Hill University. Judy has also been a Singapore Maths trainer, for UK based Maths No Problem since 2014. She is particularly passionate about the teaching of maths and of finding ways to support learners with dyscalculia and general maths learning difficulties. In her role as Senior Lecturer in Inclusion for Edgehill University, Judy developed and wrote the PGCert in Dyscalculia and Maths Learning Difficulties for Edge Hill University. She has also written the Level 2 accredited dyscalculia course for the BDA. Judy is a primary trained teacher and is a qualified specialist teacher of dyslexia having gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Special Education and AMBDA. Judy's most recent publication is Understanding Maths Difficulties, published by OUP in 2017. She has also two books of ready-made lessons for learners with dyscalculia (published by TTS), the dyscalculia pocketbook (published by Teachers Pocketbooks), Making Maths Visual and Tactile (published by SEN books). Judy has also written a guide book for parents of children with dyslexia, Help! My child has dyslexia (published by LDA). Judy has delivered many key notes, seminars and workshops at conferences throughout the UK and internationally in Europe, the UAE, New Zealand and Australia.
